OswaldOswald is a masculine given name, from Anglo-Saxon Osweald, from os "god" and weald "rule". The Old High German cognate was Answald, the Old Norse form was Ásvaldr.
OslacOslac is the old English name variation of a common Germanic name, the old Norse. Asleikr, Latinized in a West Frankish source of Ansleicus (probably spelled * Ansleich) is called. Etymologically the first part of the name is laiks "dance" OS -, as - on the Göttergeschlecht of the Æsir, the second, however, related to the Germanic word * laikaz, the Gothic, old North. leikr "Game, string game, fighting game" and altengl. Lac means "Game, dance, offering" (perhaps "Melody, sound" see also OHG), so the name in the original Germanic meaning probably indicates a special relationship of the carrier to the cult of the Æsir.
